Please NOTE: in Block 20 pattern, in the description it mentions to measure and square up after every row but those measurements are not included in the instructions. Here they are: 4 1/2". 6 1/2". 8 1/2". 10 1/2". and then 12 1/2” should be the size of the completed block . I found that my block did not need trimming, As I sewed it, I did check though, just in case ☺

I like the look of the blanket stitch, you can use it too if you have one on your machine. You should use whichever stitch ( or hand applique) that you like best, You can even use a straight stitch around the edge , it does not have to be a decorative stitch. Once your block is quilted the applique stitch you use will probably be less prominent
If your machine has this stitch, it's a fabulous way to finish your applique edges with a pretty, traditional look. This works very well on raw edges that have been fused, or turned under edges, including the interfacing (flip and fuse) method that we used.

No lines to draw, no specialty rulers needed.
Learn to make a Quarter Square Triangle unit (QST from here on out) using any regular quilting ruler. There is nothing new under the sun (my Grandma used to say) and its true. This is not new , nor did I ‘invent’ this way of a making a quarter square triangle. I am sharing it here because someone asked me to, AND for anyone who hasn’t seen it before or doesn’t have a special ruler just for making QSTs. True story: I do love my specialty rulers, paper triangles and any gadget you could conceive to make a quilt. if you do as well , please enjoy using those whenever it pleases you. Spending my days in a a quilt shop, I probably have used and enjoyed every ruler that was ever shown to me. A long time quilting partner refers t me as a ‘gadget getter’ . But we don’t always need a gadget. Just a girl and her fabric having fun any which way it makes her happy. There are many special rulers available that will aid in the making of quarter square triangles. There are also MANY resources, videos and tutorials for QSTs on the internet. What follows is only one of many ways you might choose. Scroll on to see the steps to do it with any regular quilting ruler and….no lines to draw either. It’s mostly pictures and wont take long to absorb.
For the block I am making, I want to end up with a QST that is 4” finished (so 4 1/2” unfinished) First I’ll cut two 5 1/2” squares.
You may need to make other sizes? The starting squares should be cut 1 1/2” larger than you want your FINISHED QST to be.
I need mine to be 4” finished , So I’ll start with two 5 1/2” squares.

Today’s Block has been named Rock and Roll , I know this block as Ohio Star. The very first block I ever stitched over 30 years ago! A classic star block, easy to make and will forever be a favorite block for me. here is a picture of that quilt, scanned in from an old Polaroid snapshot , so it’s fuzzy. Oh how that 1st quilt ignited a passion in me that has never faded all these years later. I still love quilting!

If you would have asked me pre-pandemic , I would probably have told you that I can never get enough time at home, down time , R and R, private time, . Now , when it’s best that we stay home as much as we can, maybe I wouldn’t answer the same way. Me and the people in my bubble always take special cares when we’re out and about, respecting others health and protecting our own. But we are all missing the way things used to be. For now we’ll crack on and continue to take these cares, in hopes our co-operation will hasten the repair of our world. In spite of all of this, it is still a comfort and a blessing to have place called home to return to after an outing of masking and distancing, it feels all the more a haven and refuge to me. Be safe and stay well.
Come to me now and rest your head for just five minutes, everything is good
Such a cozy room, the windows are illuminated by the
Sunshine through them, fiery gems for you, only for youOur house is a very, very, very fine house with two cats in the yard
