2019 JELLY ROLL PATTERNS NOW AVAILABLE FOR FREE DOWNLOAD

National Jelly Roll Day has arrived. Part of the day’s celebration are free Jelly Roll patterns from Moda fabrics, While we’d love to have you visit the little shop on Meadow Street, we know everyone reading this is not close enough to travel here for our National Jelly Roll Day doings. If you can stop in, printed copies will be available here at RCQ for all our guests.

Now that NSAJRD is here, with Moda Fabrics United Notions' permission, we can release the much anticipated #projectjellyroll patterns here on our blog today (scroll down for your free downloads).

A BIG thank you to Brigette Heiland of Zen Chic , the Ruby Star Society and Moda for providing these NSAJRD patterns.

To start you off - here is a little gift from RockingChairQuilts.com : A Jelly Roll Tip Card and pre-cut yardage chart for you to copy, print out or keep as a handy reference on your smart phone or tablet. If you are nearby and can come into the shop we will give you a tip card when you buy a Jelly Roll (while supplies last) If you visit the shop for Jelly Roll Day be sure to ask about the in store specials on Jelly Rolls and Jelly related patterns , books etc.

HERE ARE 10 IDEAS FOR JELLY ROLL STRIPS AND SCRAPS:

Make strip sets for 9-patch blocks
Make strip sets for 4-patch blocks
Cut strips 4 1/2" long. Use with 2 1/2" squares (Moda Candy squares work great) to create scrappy Flying Geese blocks.
Sew strips together for a scrappy back.
Make "framed" 9-patch blocks (1 Jelly Roll strip is enough to frame a 6" finished 9-patch.
Make a "coins" quilt using left over Jelly Roll pieces.
Make Log Cabin blocks.
Make piano key borders for a scrappy quilt.
Make kitchen accessories: pot holders, place mats, mug rugs, or coasters.
Make scrappy binding by cutting Jelly Roll strips into fourths and then sewing together as many pieces as needed for the length desired.

Hello neighbors!

Sixteen weeks of sewing and sharing has gone spinning by sew quickly. Here is a wrap up of what's happening this week as we finish up our Quilt - A- Long:

If you have your quilt put together please share a photo and we will post it here in our Quilt Gallery. See how to share a photo below
Your quilt doesn't have to be quilted -later when the quilting gets finished you can send a another photo of it if you'd like.
We had as many as 53 different quilters sharing block photos for this quilt along. AND....the highest number of pattern downloads in a given week was 836! Wow that was for block # 4, for most of the weeks we had a range of 400 to 700 patterns being downloaded from the blog posts. That is a LOT of neighborhoods.
Our final prize winner for those sharing a photo of Block #16 has been selected in a random drawing. Congratulations to Susan Garofalo!
As a thank you to everyone who has stopped in to read the blog - whether or not you enjoyed the free patterns from Moda or have sewn a stitch on a neighborhood block- we are sharing a free pattern for you today- it's my Standing Tree Block . This block has instructions to sew it in EITHER 6" or 12" finished sizes. I have included some photos of what we made here at the shop with this block. While the pictures we are showing you today are holiday themed - you could use any fabric to change up the feel of this block and create your own project. Anything from a mug mat to a bed size quilt - whatever makes you happy.

A mini quilt made with 6" blocks and quilted with Razzle Dazzle silver thread

We made a small hanging using a 12" block and some strips and scraps of Christmas fabric.

The 12" size block works nicely as a stand alone mini quilt.

YOUR BE MY NEIGHBOR QUILT -FROM MODA:

The finished quilt will measure 68″ x 84 1/2″.
There are 16 blocks in the quilt top. The rows are separated by horizontal sashing strips.
These are very scrappy blocks so exact yardage for a set number of fabrics has not been calculated. Mix your favorite Moda prints to create your colorful neighborhood!

Fabric Requirements:
16 House Blocks: Assorted Prints & Solids
Background and Sashing: 4 -1/2 yards
Borders: 1 – 1/4 yards
Binding: 2/3 yard
Backing: 4 – 3/4 yards

For a quilt using the same background for blocks, sashing and borders, you will need 5 – 3/4 yards total. For scrappy backgrounds, sashing and borders, allow for just a little bit more fabric.
